September Arguments Set For Texas School Finance Case

AUSTIN (AP) — The Texas Supreme Court has set a September 1 date to hear the massive school finance case that has entangled the Legislature and hundreds of school districts for several years.

A spokesman for the court announced the date Friday.

A state district judge last year ruled that the way the state pays for public schools is unconstitutional. Judge John Dietz said the current state funding model unfairly distributes tax revenues among districts.

The Texas attorney general's office appealed Dietz's decision, and the Supreme Court agreed to take the case earlier this year.
