Senate Confirms Erleigh Norville Wiley As New Kaufman County DA
KAUFMAN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Senate has unanimously confirmed Governor Rick Perry's appointment of Erleigh Norville Wiley as the new Kaufman County District Attorney.
The vote was 31 to zero for Wiley who was selected over three others who applied for the position.
Wiley replaces Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland who, along with his wife Cynthia, were shot dead in their Forney home on March 30. Two months before the McLelland murders, Kaufman County Assistant DA Mark Hasse was gunned down near the courthouse steps.
Wiley, 50, met with her new staff less than a week ago. During that first meeting she told them she wants to build on the success they helped achieve with Mike McLelland. "We're going to be the best district attorney's office this size in the state of Texas. So hold on, let's get going," she said.
Wiley, who was raised in Kaufman County, and graduated from Kaufman High School, is a graduate of the Texas College of Judicial Studies, National Drug Court Institute, and National College for DUI Defense. She also served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas, and was a former supervising attorney with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
Wiley, who was raised in Kaufman County, and graduated from Kaufman High School, received a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
Wiley's term will expire at the next general election.
