Security Tight For Bush Library Dedication
HIGHLAND PARK (CBSDFW.COM) - Every living U.S. president will converge in Dallas on Thursday for the George W. Bush Presidential Center dedication. Preparations by the Dallas Police Department (DPD), Highland Park, University Park and SMU police, and the Secret Service started months ago. The Secret Service will have a leading role in the operation and officials with the agency said last week that they are ready. Yet the dedication presents a security challenge.
"We are acutely aware of the sensitive nature of the event," Dallas Police Chief David Brown said.
Brown said his department is one of many being called upon to keep dignitaries and the thousands expected to attend safe. Although specific details are being kept secret -- students are aware preparations are well underway.
"They've been talking about how snipers will be on top of the building," said SMU student Hunter Pyle.
Chief Brown said local and federal agencies need citizens to keep an eye out for anything suspicious and to report it no matter how small it seems.
"It could be a key piece of evidence on something that might happen that could really help us mitigate something happening or resolve it much quicker because its been reported by so many people."
