Second Dallas Officer Arrested For Injury To A Child
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Police Department revealed Friday night, Officer Courtney Thornton was arrested by Rockwall Police on Thursday, October 18.
Police said Thornton was arrested for a warrant out of Royse City for injury to a child, a third degree felony.
The Royse City Police Department said it had received a report from the Department of Family Protective Services alleging physical abuse of a 9-year-old girl in May 2017.
Police contacted Cortney Thornton, a person of interest listed in the DFPS report.
Based on the Detective's own investigation, Royse City Police said Thornton "intentionally, knowingly, recklessly or with criminal negligence caused bodily injury to the victim who was age nine at the time of the offense while at a residence in Royse City."
On October 18, 2018, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Thornton was contacted by a Rockwall Police officer who discovered he had a warrant out of for him.
Thornton was arrested on the warrant and booked in at the Rockwall County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
On Sunday, October 14, Dallas Police officer Jamie McDonald was arrested by Royse City Police for injury to a child.
She's accused of holding down and slapping her 7-year-old daughter.
Royse City Police said the two cases are not connected.
