Search For Shooting Suspects Leads To FWPD Standoff

FORT WORTH (KRLD) - An early morning deadly shooting and the search for suspects led to a Tuesday standoff with Fort Worth police.

Around 4:30 a.m. a man was shot and killed after answering a knock on the door at a house in the 1900 block of Grainger, just south of John Peter Smith Hospital.

Louis Shannon is the victim's cousin and he told KRLD NewsRadio 1080 that the bullet was intended for someone else inside the house.

"You could say, 'wrong place, wrong time', but hey, if you gonna kill somebody ya know, make sure you got the right one," Shannon said of the shooter. "You don't just let somebody open the door and just start shooting – at least make sure you got the right person."

Minutes after the shooting witnesses led police to a house just a few blocks away -– on Galveston Street. Fort Worth police and SWAT officers surrounded the house.

A standoff with individuals inside the house lasted for several hours. Ultimately, five men surrendered to police and were taken into custody for questioning in the shooting death.

"Right now we don't know who our suspects are and/or witnesses," said Fort Worth police Sgt. Pedro Criado.

The name of the shooting victim has not been released.
