Driver Arrested After Crash At Joe Pool Lake
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A violent car crash forced officials to shut down a bridge over Joe Pool Lake early Thursday morning. The incident started at about 3:00 a.m. and the driver of the vehicle was arrested nearly two hours later.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of Lake Ridge Parkway. Police had first spotted the car at Camp Wisdom Road, traveling at a high rate of speed. They attempted to pursue the vehicle, but were unable to keep pace. Soon after, authorities rolled up to the awful crash. The vehicle struck a part of the bridge. The impact had so much force that the engine block flew out of the car.
But the driver was not at the crash scene. Police used a helicopter to search the lake, thinking that he may have been thrown from the vehicle. After an intensive ground search, the man was found on a peninsula on the lake's south side. A resident there called police to report an injured man in the area.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital. Police have only described him as being in his mid-40s and from the area.
Officials closed all but one northbound lane of Lake Ridge Parkway in order to clean up the massive amount of debris that was scattered across the road.
