Search Continues For Person Who Left Beaten Woman In Park
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Whoever attacked a woman and left her for dead at a south Dallas park remains on the run. The victim was in critical condition when she was transported to a local hospital. Detectives are hoping the woman gets better so they can interview her and possibly develop a lead in the case.
Two people walking reportedly called police after discovering the nude woman on the ground in Opportunity Park.
Sources told CBS 11 News the unidentified victim, who is at Baylor University Medical Center, isn't alert or conscious enough to talk with police and give them the information they need to find whoever hurt her.
No one seems to know the victim, who is in her 50s, and by all accounts an attacker is still on the loose.
By the time the sun came up Thursday morning signs of the crime scene were still visible, and neighbors were quick to react.
Alton Green said, "It was shocking to me."
"It's horrible," mother Denisia Walton said. "It's like you can't even walk through the park with your kids or anything."
Walton lives with her mother and two young daughters less than 10 yards away from Opportunity Park. She said knowing that a woman was beaten nearly to death, stripped of her clothes and left bloodied under trees has her frightened.
The fact that police have yet to announce any arrests or solid leads in their investigation has Walton more alert. "I don't know what to think," she said. "Was it young kids? Was it an older person? Who would just do something like that?"
Neighbors who spoke to CBS 11 said that while they are horrified by what happened, they trust the police will get to the bottom of this.
While the unidentified victim heals the clock is ticking for police who say they are at a standstill until they can speak to the woman.
Police won't say if the victim even lived in the general area of Opportunity Park. As of last check the woman was in serious condition.
