Scott Jumps To 3rd In Golf Rankings
PHILADELPHIA (Sports Network) - Adam Scott jumped to No. 3 in this week's world golf rankings thanks to his thrilling playoff win over Angel Cabrera at the 77th Masters.
Scott earned his first major title and became the first Australian to win the Masters when he drained a 12-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole at Augusta National. The triumph helped Scott leap from seventh to third on the world.
Tiger Woods, who was penalized two strokes and nearly disqualified at the Masters for an illegal drop, remained No. 1 with a tie for fourth place, while Rory McIlroy tied for 25th at Augusta and stayed at No. 2.
Justin Rose also tied for 25th, but he dropped a spot to fourth due to Scott's rise. Brandt Snedeker, a third-round co-leader at the Masters, shot 75 on Sunday and fell to a tie for sixth, but he stayed put in the world rankings at No. 5.
Luke Donald dropped from fourth to sixth in the rankings and Louis Oosthuizen fell a spot to seventh. Steve Stricker remained unchanged at eighth, while Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson exchanged places, with the former jumping up to ninth. Mickelson tied for 54th at the Masters.
Lee Westwood moved up two spots to 11th courtesy of a tie for eighth, Keegan Bradley dropped one place to 12th and Sergio Garcia, a first-round co-leader at Augusta, tied with Westwood and moved from 16th to 13th as a result.
Defending Masters champ Bubba Watson remained at No. 14 despite a tie for 50th, while Ian Poulter slid three spots to 15th and Charl Schwartzel dropped one place to 16th. Dustin Johnson was an early contender at Augusta and he moved up two places to No. 17 with a tie for 13th.
Graeme McDowell and Jason Dufner each dropped a spot, slipping to 18th and 19th, respectively, and Webb Simpson remained unchanged at No. 20.
On the Web.com Tour, Alex Aragon overcame a five-shot final-round deficit to win the WNB Golf Classic and move to 280th in the world.
