Schools Begging Parents For Support

AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) - Inside the Texas legislative loop some lawmakers, including Governor Perry, say we're not in a budget crisis...that we just need to find ways to trim $15 billion worth of fat.

But those outside the loop beg to differ. Some say $10 billion of those cuts will come from public education. Bobby Riugez is Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Aledo ISD. He says breaking down that 10 billiion dollars is as much as $1000 per student.

Riugez says that is unprecedented and a major crisis for our students.

Gene Buinger is Superintendant of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district. He says the education crisis of today causes an even bigger crisis later if you short change students. He says without the necessary tools these kids won't be prepared for jobs later on, and that will have adversely affect our own economy.

School officials are urging residents to write to their legislator and demand that public education be a priority.
