School Remembers Wylie Teen Killed Over Weekend
WYLIE (CBSDFW.COM) - The family of a Wylie teenager is asking for justice after he was shot and killed over the weekend.
Flowers now cover the storm drain where Nahum Martinez's body was found on Saturday.
Authorities believe the 15-year-old was shot and killed in a nearby house and his body dumped onto the street.
As of Monday afternoon, two 14-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with the death. Authorities also say a gun believed to have been used in Martinez's death was found in a field not far from the boy's body.
Monday relatives of Martinez told CBS 11 News they want to see the teenage suspects prosecuted.
"Justice to be…justice for him, for Nahum," said the victim's aunt, Mariana Garza. "See whoever did it that they pay for hat they did. They took an innocent life."
Members of the Martinez family have been receiving food and other gifts from the community while coping with the loss of a young man who was a promising track star and had plans to go to college.
"He was a nice little boy, I mean he had a big heart and he would help anybody," said the victim's aunt, Mariana Garza. "He was a very good student too and he loved sports. I know he wanted to go to UT. Because he was a #1 Longhorn fan."
Mariana Garza said Nahum's parents are overcome with grief.
"They're very distraught. They're in shock. They've been together, praying and crying. They just can't believe he's gone."
Monday morning, grieving Wylie East High School students were met by counselors. There were tears and hugs as Nahum, a freshman at the school, was remembered. Competitors observed a moment of silence before the track meet. Nahum was a cross country runner at Wylie East.
Monday evening the Wylie East track team had a meet in Rockwall. Team members said they would compete in honor of their friend and classmate.
Police are not answering questions about what happened over the weekend.
