Schoenberg Collection Goes To North Texas
DENTON (AP) – A collection relating to 20th century composer Arnold Schoenberg has been donated to the University of North Texas' Music Library.
The Vienna-born composer who died in Los Angeles in 1951 is known for inventing the 12-tone technique, a system of harmony in which there is no key.
The collection donated by Arnold Greissle-Schoenberg, the composer's eldest grandchild, includes letters Schoenberg wrote to family members detailing the technique. It also includes family photographs and other manuscripts.
The 88-year-old from New York City decided the items he had relating to his grandfather should go to North Texas after visiting a collection housed there since the late 1960s.
The largest collection of Schoenberg archives resides at the Arnold Schoenberg Center in Vienna.
