Sandusky To Be Sentenced On October 9
BELLEFONTE, Pa. (Sports Network) - Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky will be sentenced Oct. 9 on his conviction of child sexual abuse.
Sandusky was found guilty in June on 45 counts charging him with sexual abuse of 10 boys over a 15-year period.
The scandal, which broke last November with Sandusky's arrest, brought down the Penn State football program, tarnished the legacy of the late Joe Paterno and scarred the entire university.
Judge John M. Cleland scheduled the sentencing hearing on Monday. A hearing to determine if Sandusky is a sexually violent predator (SVP) will be held directly before sentencing.
Cleland also ordered written statements from the defense and prosecution related to sentencing must be submitted by Oct. 5. Attorneys for both sides will meet with the judge on Oct. 8.
