Sandie's Arts Blog: July 4th In North Texas
July 4th is one of North Texas' favorite weekends - so naturally there's is a lot to do! The weather promises to be hot, as usual, so make sure you are hydrated and wear sunscreen to all the fun outdoor events but there is plenty to do inside as well!
First up - let's talk fireworks!!
The world class Kaboom Town! Fireworks, in Addison, will start at 9:35 p.m. with a musical simulcast on 100.3 Jack-FM. USA Today has ranked the 30-minute show among the country's best. It is the only show in Texas -- in fact, in the entire region, with that designation!
Addison Circle Park has always been a destination for fireworks viewers, and the party at the park begins this year at 5 p.m. In addition to live music on the Dos Equis Main Stage, including the Dallas Wind Symphony, guests can enjoy a Family Fun Zone featuring fun picnic games presented by This Side Up Family Fun Center, bounce houses, laser tag, bubble runners and more.
At 7 p.m., the skies will come alive with the Addison Airport Air Show featuring the Cavanaugh Historic Warbird Flyover. During the flyover, dozens of warplanes ranging from WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam to modern warplanes will maneuver both singularly and in formation. Plus, guests will enjoy stunt acrobatic acts from air show favorites including Jan Collmer, Matt Younkin & Mike Galloway. At 9 p.m., as the sky goes dark, guests will enjoy 'Magic by Moonlight,' Matt Younkin's aerial acrobatics show with fantastic light effects.
Another fun way to celebrate the 4th is at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie with the Lone Stars and Stripes Celebration. Grandstand Gates Open at 3 p.m. on July 3 & 4 with the First Live Race at 5 p.m. on July 3 & 4. Enjoy two full days of exciting live thoroughbred racing and fun activities for the whole family including pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, games and clowns.
After the races each day, stay to enjoy the spectacular 20-minute fireworks display, choreographed to music. Enjoy live music on the Courtyard of Champions Stage from 5:00-11:00 p.m. by Maiden Texas on Sunday, July 3 and Incognito on Monday, July 4.
Don't forget about America's game! Head out to see our Texas Rangers this weekend as they go up against the Marlins with fireworks and special events all weekend. First pitch at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and Sunday the popular Blue Bell $1 Ice Cream Sunday is back - a great way to stay cool and root for the home team! Monday night the Rangers host the Orioles at 7:05 p.m. with the Captain America–Disney Independence Day Fireworks Show. A great outing for the entire family!

The International Brotherhood of Magicians, the world's oldest and largest magicians organization, is holding its annual convention in Big D and the city will have more than 700 sleight-of-hand magicians, mind readers, escape artists and illusionists roaming the streets.
