Saginaw Woman Dies In Weekend Plane Crash
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - A wife and mother died after a plane crash in Denton County.
Jennifer Lunow, 35, was a passenger in her husband Danny Lunow's single engine Beechcraft 24, along with their 5 year old daughter, when the plane crashed less than a mile away from Denton Muncipal Airport Saturday night.
The family was heading to back to Hicks Airfield when Danny Lunow called Denton Municipal Airport to report engine problems, saying he had lost oil pressure and lost control of his propeller, said Lynn Lunsford, spokesperson for the FAA.
The plane crashed in a field near the airport.
"The Denton airport tower is the one who contacted the Denton Police Department," said Officer Orlando Hinojosa, public information officer for the Denton Police Department. "An officer responded and observed the plan down."
Jennifer Lunow died at the scene. Danny Lunow and their daughter were transported to Denton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The plane crashed on Masch Branch Road, less than a mile away from Denton Municipal Airport.
Neighbors at Hicks Airfield said the couple owned and operated a graphics company out of their hangar and often used their plane for short business trips.
Neighbor Bobby Smith, who build's cars in his hanger, said the family would visit his warehouse to check out his cars and the couple were often seen playing with their daughter outside.
"She'd just run around out there and play, reminded me of my little granddaughter," Smith said. "They all seemed happy. They are all friendly and waved every time we'd see them."
The FAA and NTSB are investigating. The investigation could take several months.
