Churches Pray, Serve Where Deadly Tornadoes Struck Six Months Ago

ROWLETT (CBSDFW.COM) - Six months after a deadly outbreak of tornadoes, members from nearly every church in Rowlett walked the streets damaged from the December's storm to let people know they have not been forgotten.
Pastors and church members prayed on dozens of streets and went door-to-door informing homeowners of assistance and resources still available to help with their storm recovery.
"They don't know about all the resources," said Pastor Ann Dotson of First Christian Church Rowlett. "When they heard that we were going to be out tonight, they were crying and thanking us. They said we thought we had been forgotten."
Hundreds of homes in Rowlett remain in need for repair. Many homeowners were underinsured and FEMA has denied individual assistance.
Kendrick Willridge from Faith Missionary Baptist Church said, "I think actually walking the streets again, and not just passing by in your car, helps you remember what actually took place here. You can see some of the devastation and some of the people that are hurting."
The Rowlett Long Term Recovery Committee (http://www.rebuildrowlett.org/) says donations are still needed. The committee meets every other Monday to review cases and determine how best to disperse the funds.
