Romo To Miss OTAs After Undergoing Back Surgery
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the team's upcoming OTAs after undergoing surgery last month to remove a cyst from his back.
The team's website reports that the surgery is expected to keep Romo out of the next three weeks of OTA practices and possibly a three-day minicamp in June. The team is confident that Romo will be ready for training camp, which begins in Oxnard, CA on July 21.
In March, the Cowboys signed Romo to a six-year, $108 million extension which included $55 million in guarantees.
But Romo has been less visible this offseason, especially on the golf course. The quarterback skipped the team's annual charity golf event on May 15.
Jerry Jones says Tony Romo has committed to spending "Peyton Manning-type time" trying to turn the Dallas Cowboys into contenders once again. He also believes Romo will have a larger role in the offense this coming season.
Jason Garrett disputes that Romo's role will significantly change.
"He has been our quarterback for six years now. So his voice matters to us. It has mattered for a long time."
