Romo Stays On Cowboys' 53 And Here's Why

FRISCO (105.3 THE FAN) - The Cowboys have performed their roster-creating gymnastics, and Tony Romo remains on the Dallas active roster.
So is this an indication of health? Or of hope?
The Sunday QB shuffle included the release of Jameill Showers to pair with an agreement with newcomer Mark Sanchez to backup Romo's temp replacement, rookie Dak Prescott, who will start next weekend's season opener against the Giants.
But Sunday was only the first day Romo could have gone on IR (for eight weeks) in prepping to return during the regular season. Such a move can still happen.
But for now? While an eight-week-plus concern might still linger, the hope that the broken bone in Romo's back is but a shorter-term injury lingers too.
So the star QB remains "active" in the roster-presence sense, and beyond issues of hope and health, the for-the-moment logic is clear: which of the handful of 54th-best men that Dallas cut to get down to a 53-man roster is more important than a rehabbing Tony Romo?
