ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- After a less than encouraging performance from quarterback Brandon Weeden, an injured Tony Romo says he will travel to London with the team and prepare as if he's playing.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would not make any guarantees, but sounded optimistic following Sunday's loss to Arizona.
"We're betting on him playing," said Jones. "If we didn't think he could play, he wouldn't be on that long plane ride."
Dallas will play Jacksonville next Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London before having a bye week in Week 10.
Weeden filled in as Romo's replacement on Sunday in a 28-17 loss to Arizona, completing 18-of-33 passes for 183 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Head coach Jason Garrett said the decision to leave Romo out of the lineup was made just 90 minutes before the game.
"He progressed each and every day, never to the point where he could practice... So obviously without getting any work up to this point, it was a fairly easy decision once we got to gameday."
Many have compared Romo's injury to that of Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty, who missed one game before returning to play.
"We're optimistic," said Garrett. "People with similar injuries have been on a similar timetable where they missed the first game and they were getting close to being able to play in that second game. So we'll see how he feels. Again, it's the same standard with the pain tolerance and how that relates to how he can function."
Romo reportedly suffered two fractured transverse process in his back in a hit against the Redskins last Monday night. The Cowboys initially diagnosed the injury as a "back contusion".
Dustin Vaughan, an undrafted rookie out of West Texas A&M, is the team's third quarterback. He was activated for the first time on Sunday but did not play.
Jacksonville moved to 1-8 with a 33-23 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.
