Romo On Jerry: "There Wasn't Anybody That Stood Up For Me More Last Season"

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Tony Romo joined The Ben and Skin Show on 105.3 The Fan for his first official interview since the Dallas Cowboys released him on Tuesday.
In a subsequent announcement, CBS Sports announced that the former quarterback would be joining their number one broadcasting team for the upcoming NFL season.
In the interview, Romo talked about many things, one of them being his relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and what he's meant to him throughout the entire process.
"He's been great. He's been there for me throughout my entire time (playing football). There wasn't anybody that stood up for me more last season," Romo said about Jones. "And that meant as much as anything ... he just loved me and wanted good things for me. Things happen, it's just what happens in life, but you remember the people that help you along the way ... appreciate you ... and love on you ... try and do the things that you'd hopefully want to do for others, and he just exemplifies that stuff," Romo concluded.
The biggest question surrounding Romo's move to the broadcast booth is that he hasn't yet used the word, 'retirement.' Romo addressed that today by saying, "if you wanna call it retired ... you wanna call it whatever you want ... I'm moving on to talking about it. Like I said yesterday (during a conference call with CBS), I just don't envision that ever changing." Romo did add that he'll continue to work out as he has in the past, but joked about it meaning anything football related. "Hopefully I'll just keep losing all this baby fat I got," he quipped.
Romo now steps into the spotlight of television broadcasting starting in September. CBS has replaced stalwart Phil Simms with him to go along with play by play man Jim Nantz. The former quarterback couldn't have been more excited about the opportunity when discussing his role with Ben and Skin. "I'm very excited. I'm very happy and I'm really lucky. It's a unique situation I get to go into and it's a privilege to be able to talk about the game. And not everyone gets that opportunity ... and I don't take that for granted."
