Romo Fumbles, Flashes In Preseason Debut
ARLINGTON (105.3 THE FAN) -- Tony Romo's only incompletion of the night may just have been the most encouraging play in the Cowboys preseason home opener against the Ravens.
As pass rushers collapsed the pocket, Romo evaded a tackler from his right side with his patented back shoulder spin. Moving to his left, Romo flipped the ball out right to a wide open James Hanna in the flat. He dropped it.
But on a night when Romo went untouched, it was the play that most required a "football-like" maneuver.
After skipping the team's preseason opener against San Diego last week, Romo completed 4-of-5 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
"When you play long enough, you're always excited to play when the season starts, and that was exciting," Romo said to CBS 11 during the game. "As far as just the progressions and the reads and going through my mechanics, that's kind of the same. So it was good to go out here and do what we did."
The lone score came on a well-placed 31-yard jump ball to wide receiver Dez Bryant.
But the night wasn't all perfect for No. 9.
A botched exchange with DeMarco Murray was scooped up by the Ravens on the team's second drive, giving Baltimore a 7-0 lead.
"We've got to look at it and find out on tape," said Romo. "Obviously, we can't let that happen. We've got to get that corrected -- and we will."
As for seeing how Romo will react to his first NFL hit following off-season back surgery? We'll have to wait until next week in Miami.
