Romney Sticks With Strategy Despite Perry's Surge
EXETER, N.H. (AP) - Mitt Romney is campaigning in New Hampshire as though he's still the GOP presidential front-runner. He's focusing his criticisms on President Barack Obama, taking few risks and keeping most of his proposals vague.
That may change soon. A new Gallup poll shows Texas Gov. Rick Perry is the new favorite among Republicans. And next month Perry will be joining GOP presidential debates for the first time.
For now, Romney is shrugging off suggestions he may have to alter his easygoing campaign style. Romney says it's more important that he focus on Obama's failures than on the other GOP candidates.
He concedes that Perry is "a very effective candidate."
But Romney still enjoys a big lead in fundraising and organization over Perry and the others.
