Roethlisberger Among Top AFC Players In Week 17
NEW YORK (Sports Network) - Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his role in Pittsburgh's division-clinching win over Cleveland.
Also on Wednesday, Raiders linebacker Kamerion Wimbley and Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri earned defensive and special teams honors for the week.
Roethlisberger completed 15 of his 22 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Steelers to a 41-9 victory over the Browns to clinch the AFC North and earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh scored on each of its five first-half possessions, including Roethlisberger's 56-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace on the team's first offensive play.
Roethlisberger finished the game with a passer rating of 141.3, his highest since Week 1 of the 2008 season.
Wimbley had seven tackles and a career-best three sacks in Oakland's 31-10 win over AFC West-champion Kansas City, which gave the Raiders a 6-0 record over division opponents this season -- the first team since the NFL-AFL merger to go unbeaten in its division and not make the playoffs.
The Chiefs were knocked to the No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs because of the loss and Indianapolis' last-second victory over Tennessee.
Vinatieri kicked a 43-yarder as time expired to lift the Colts to their win over the Titans, the third field goal of 40 yards or more he made in the game.
Indianapolis won the AFC South for the seventh time in eight years and made the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season, tying a record set by the Dallas Cowboys from 1975-83.
