Rockwall Teen Found Dead In Apparent Homicide
ROCKWALL (CBSDFW.COM) - A Rockwall teenager was found dead in her home on Tuesday evening with multiple stab wounds, according to Rockwall Police. The girl, 15-year-old Surie Baeza, was found in her room by her mother.
Investigators say the girl was not feeling well and had stayed home from school at her Lake Rockwall Estates home. They believe she was killed some time between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Sergeant Jeff Welch with the Rockwall Police Department says the teenager's mother came home after work, thinking her daughter was sleeping in her room. After preparing dinner for the evening, the mother went to wake her daughter up, but found her daughter on the floor in a pool of her own blood. The teenager was unresponsive.
"Once the officers got there, a preliminary investigation indicates the 15-year-old had several wounds about her torso, which appeared to be knife wounds," said Welch.
Baeza was dead when police arrived.
According to Welch, investigators are trying to retrace the teenager's steps in hope of finding the killer. That starts with interviewing the teen's close friends and family.
"Investigators are working from her inside circle out to try to understand what she was doing for the day and learn about her life."
Baeza's family packed up belongings and left the home with Rockwall Police Wednesday morning. Police have spent the day interviewing them as well.
Baeza was a Freshman at Rockwall Heath High School. She turned 15 Sunday, and was a flute player in the Heath High School band.
Baeza's boyfriend, Joseph Luu, was as shocked by the news as anyone. "I honestly don't know who would have done this to her."
They became boyfriend and girlfriend a month ago. He was at school Tuesday when she stayed home sick. He would not see her alive again.
A memorial will be held for Baeza Thursday night at 6:30 at the Rockwall Lake Estates Community Center. The family says the gathering will be a time of prayer and counseling.
