Robert Gates To Speak About 9/11 At UNT

DENTON (AP) - Former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is set to speak at the University of North Texas.

Gates is set to speak Wednesday evening as part of a week of events planned at UNT to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Gates joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1966, eventually becoming its director from 1991-93. He took office as defense secretary in 2006 under President George W. Bush, continued under President Barack Obama and retired from the job in June.

Gates served as president of Texas A&M University from 2002-06.

On Tuesday, the College of William and Mary in Virginia named Gates as its next chancellor. Gates received his undergraduate degree in history from William and Mary in 1965.
