Robbers Beat & Steal $$ From Valentine's Day Shopper
MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in North Texas are looking for the two men who attacked, beat, and robbed a man as he stood inside a jewelry store at Town East Mall in Mesquite.
According to Sgt. Brian Parrish, with the Mesquite Police Department, the shopper was at Kay Jewelers on Valentine's Day. The man had $3,500 in cash. "He was going to the jewelers to pick up an engagement ring, which was a surprise for his girlfriend," Parrish explained. "He had cash in his hand; at that time he was approached by two suspects. Those suspects assaulted the man and took the cash. They ran from the mall."
While the crime is horrendous under any conditions, the jewelry purchase is one that took some time to achieve. Parrish said the victim was, "… just a hardworking guy. He works two jobs and it looks like [he's] a guy just trying to build a family."
As the customer stood in line two men brutally beat and robbed him. The victim was attacked so viciously that his jaw was broken and a tooth was knocked out. "They injured the man to the extent that his injuries would be covered under [the charge] Serious Bodily Injury," Parrish said.
Given that the attack happened during at a shopping mall open for business, authorities in Mesquite want to quickly close this case and put the public at ease. "It's something that we're taking extra seriously, because the mall is a place where people go to be safe," Parrish said. "So, our investigators are exceptionally motivated to find thee individuals."
North Texans are being asked to take a look at surveillance video (see clip at top) from the mall that shows the suspects on an escalator and inside the mall.
The suspects are described as African-American males, between 18 and 20 years old, standing 5'6" to 5'7" tall and weighing between 140 and 150 pounds. One suspect was wearing a sports hat and shirt, both with yellow writing on them. The second suspect was dressed in all white – shirt, pants and shoes.
