FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The CBS 11 Weather Authority has issued a Weather Alert Day across North Texas on Wednesday in anticipation of a stormy afternoon. We issue these Weather Alert Days when significant weather is forecasted that will impact your day.

The threat of severe weather continues to be elevated on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are all possible on Wednesday afternoon.

This is one of those days in North Texas where you have to be weather aware. There is an ENHANCED RISK for severe weather over the Metroplex and counties to the east this afternoon and evening.

We are expecting two rounds, perhaps overlapping during the afternoon hours, in two separate areas. From the Metro area to the east, the morning rain is starting to increase in intensity. These storms could produce large hail and even isolated tornados as they move east. Later this afternoon, the dry-line will likely start to fire a line of severe weather as well. These storms will move into the Metro area by end of the day and into the evening. They also could produce large hail and isolated tornados along with damaging winds.

The Storm Predication Center shows a high probability of large hail (3/4 of an inch or larger). That area outlined in yellow in the picture below? That's an area where there is a 10 percent probability of higher or VERY LARGE hail (larger than 2 inches).

The Tornado Risk is higher over northern Louisiana, where a significant and deadly outbreak is possible. That said, there is still a big concern for tornados to develop in North Texas with any supercell that forms.

The rainfall forecast reflects where the current modeling puts most of the storm activity: along and east of the Interstate-35E corridor.

Here is your hour-by-hour for the day. We start Wednesday morning muggy and in the upper 60s with drizzle/mist going on. The clouds will break by afternoon, allowing us to warm into the 80s. The heat and humidity combines with significant upper-air winds to produce the severe threat.

There is a little cold rain (not severe weather) in the forecast on Friday before we dry out and warm up this weekend.
