Rising Temperatures, Falling Lake Levels

Temperatures are still on the rise, but our lake levels could use some help.

The three major water districts for the DFW area falling in their capacity.  The Tarrant Regional Water District is down to 70%, Dallas Water Utilities at 78%, and the North Texas Municipal Water District is at 68%.  As we continue to use water to keep our lawns green, wash our cars, and other activities, the water levels will continue to drop.  These districts have all dropped 3% since a month ago.

In the immediate DFW area, lake levels range from 1.3 feet below at Joe Pool Lake to 8.8 feet below at Lake Lavon.  Lake Lavon  is 60.8% full and Joe Pool Lake is 94.6% full.

A wider view at North Texas shows that Texoma is 0.4 feet above capacity and Lake Bridgeport is 18.9 feet is below capacity.  Lake Texoma is 100% full and Lake Bridgeport is 48.6% full.  Lake Texoma is full due to the lake not being used to pull water because of the Zebra Mussels.

Around the state lakes are ranging from 49% from 4.9%.  Lake Medina is the lake a 4.9% full.  New Braunfels has already  increased the restrictions on watering.  The use of sprinklers or irrigation systems is down to once every two weeks.

Tonight will be in the upper 70s pushing 80, but tomorrow will be right around 100°.  There is a 20% chance of rain for the DFW area.

7 DAY FORECAST

For the next several days, temperatures will be in triple digits!  We will be at or above 100 and winds will be out of the South.
