Lockdown lifted at Richland High School after hoax threat made to 911, police say
A lockdown at Richland High School was lifted Monday afternoon after about an hour, according to North Richland Hills police.
The department said the city's 911 received a call about a potential threat at the Birdville ISD campus, and the school was placed under lockdown at 1:15 p.m.
Police said they determined the threat was a hoax, but searched the campus to ensure everyone's safety.
Video from CBS News Texas Chopper, which arrived on the scene as the lockdown was lifted, showed multiple police cars had responded to the school. There was also a line of vehicles waiting to turn into the campus, and what appeared to be parents waiting at the entrance.
Hoax school threats
Numerous school districts in North Texas and across the country have been targets of hoax threats since four people were killed in a shooting at a high school in Georgia earlier this month.
At least ten people in North Texas, most of them juveniles, have been arrested for making threats against schools in recent weeks. Many of them have been charged with making a terroristic threat, which can potentially bring a 2-year prison sentence.
