RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) - Richardson police have charged Jason Lowe with murder, as they continue the search for his girlfriend, Jessie Bardwell, 27.
"We believe foul play has taken place that involved Mr. Lowe against Ms. Bardwell, so he has been charged with her murder," said Sgt. Kevin Perlich, Richardson PD PIO.
Bardwell was reported missing Monday by her parents in Mississippi who grew suspicious after she failed to call on Mother's Day. They said Lowe told them Bardwell was out shopping when they tried to reach her. Bardwell's parents eventually drove 11 hours from Mississippi to file a missing persons report.
Police say Lowe was initially cooperative but that soon changed. He was arrested at the couple's apartment Friday afternoon for drug possession, after police sent there to question him found cocaine and marijuana.
Police added the murder charge Friday afternoon after they say they discovered evidence of foul play.
Sgt. Perlich would not elaborate on the type of evidence recovered and said their primary focus is finding Bardwell.
Police said they will take DNA from Bardwell's parents to compare to DNA evidence they may recover.
Bardwell moved to Richardson just after Christmas to live with Lowe.
