RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Heights Baptist Church hosted 300 low-income families shopping for Christmas presents from donated gifts on Sunday.

Hundreds of volunteers helped families who are at or below the poverty level obtain Christmas gifts, allowing them to choose from thousands of donated items — which total more than $75,000, according to the church — during the church's 10th annual Three Trees event. Families also received gift cards to help offset the cost of a Christmas meal, serve pastor Richard Covington said.

"It's a great joy for us to be able to partner with our community and celebrate this Christmas season," Covington said.Children attending the event played games and listened to live music while their parents secretly shopped, according to the church.

The event was scheduled to run from 3 to 5 p.m.
