RG3 Has 'Legitimate' Shot At Starting Week 1
NEW YORK (CBS SPORTS) - The Washington Redskins are encouraged by quarterback Robert Griffin III's progress, so much that the team believes he has a good shot of starting in Week 1, according to ESPN.
Griffin suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament against the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs. Rehabilitation time for such an injury is generally nine to 12 months, though league MVP Adrian Peterson returned in eight months after his surgery.
"You won't see the same Robert Griffin," RG3 said the day before Super Bowl XLVII. "You'll see a better Robert Griffin."
That certainly may be, but the question has long been when he will be healthy enough to return. For its part, the NFL was reportedly interested in Griffin's return date so it could shrewdly schedule its primetime games.
Griffin was named the NFL's offensive rookie of the year, after a 2012 season in which he threw for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns, leading the Redskins to their first NFC East Division title since 1999.
