Reward At $25,000 For Lake Highlands Rapes Information

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A single donation has increased the reward for information on the recent rapes in Lake Highlands to $25,000.

An anonymous donor has added $20,00 to the already $5,000 reward being offered by Crime Stoppers.

There have been five sexual assaults in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas since 2008, with three of those attacks happening in the last month. The most recent attacks occurred on February 22, March 15 and March 19.

Police thought they had solved the first of those cases after arresting Fernando Munoz.  Munoz was originally arrested on a burglary charge, but investigators suspected he was responsible for four sexual assaults dating back to 2008, including the February 22 attack. DNA has since cleared the 33-year-old of the attack in February.

With Munoz having been in custody when the last two attacks occurred, police admit they aren't sure if there is a serial rapist at large or if multiple suspects have committed the crimes.

Dallas police have increased patrols in the Lake Highlands area and during a scheduled crime watch meeting urged residents to be vigilant about locking their homes – using deadbolts and making sure windows were secure.  Residents are also being asked to leave on the lights at their homes, inside and out, and add more lighting if necessary.

The $25,000 reward is for tips leading to the arrest of a suspect of suspects in any of the Lake Highlands rape cases.

Anyone with information is being asked to call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers at 877-373-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be left online at the Crime Stoppers website. Individuals leaving information online can even upload photos relative to the suspect or crime. All tips are anonymous.
