NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities are working to find out how a North Texas teenager died after jumping into a local lake.
Rescue crews spent hours searching for teenager Ibrahim Malik. He had jumped off a 30-foot high train trestle into Lake Lavon Wednesday afternoon and never surfaced. Members of Wylie Fire-Rescue and the Nevada Volunteer Fire Department found a body just after midnight.
While there has been no positive identification, there have been no other people reported missing and investigators have no reason to believe the body isn't that of Malik.
Investigators say six boys jumped into the lake, but only five surfaced. Family and friends confirm Ibrahim Malik as the 18-year-old who went missing.
First-responders say this isn't the first time they've been called out or an emergency situation in the area.
Nevada Volunteer Fire Department member Amy Cortez said, "Scary, very scary because there's approximately 30 feet between that railroad trestle and the water so it's quite a jump."
Thursday afternoon a spokesperson with the Colin County Sheriff's Office said he suspects the death was the result of an accidental drowning.
