Rangers Acquire Catcher Jonathan Lucroy

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Rangers have acquired Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy and RP Jeremy Jeffress, the club announced Monday. Texas will send prospects Lewis Brinson, Luis Ortiz and a player to be named later to Milwaukee in the deal.
It was a hefty price to pay as general manager Jon Daniels parted with two of the team's highly regarded prospects in Brinson and Ortiz. They are the #2 and #3 rated prospects in the organization.
Lucroy and Jeffress' contracts likely softened the blow, however. Lucroy has a $5.25 club option next season that will surely get picked up, while Jeffress is arbitration eligible for the first time this off-season, and is under control until 2019.
"He's one of the best catchers in the game. A two-way player who makes our pitching staff better," said general manager Jon Daniels regarding Lucroy.
Daniels added that Jeffress has an electric arm and is capable of pitching in the 9th inning, although they prefer for Sam Dyson to remain the club's closer.
Texas will send 2015 first round pick Dillon Tate along with other prospects to New York in that deal, according to club.
Lucroy is hitting .299 with 13 HR and 50 RBI in 95 games. Jeffress compiled a 2.22 ERA in 47 appearances as the Brewers closer this season.
