FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBSDFW/CBS News/AP) - News media outlets are reporting that multiple people have been shot at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

On its official Twitter account, airport officials said there was an "ongoing incident" in the lower level Terminal 2 baggage claim area. They did not elaborate.

Police have said that the lone-shooter is in custody.

"We heard the shots...popping shots," and, "people yelling, people screaming -- everyone's taking off running," witness at Fort Lauderdale Int'l Airport tells CBS News.

One witness says the suspect appeared to be randomly shooting people in the baggage claim area.

"He was calm, he wasn't frantic...he just kept shooting - randomly. No rhyme, no reason" a witness told CBS News. "He threw his guns on the ground when he was finished and laid down, spread eagle, and waited for an officer to come get him."

News helicopters hovering over the scene showed hundreds of people standing on the tarmac early Friday afternoon as an ambulance drove by and numerous law enforcement officers rushed to the scene.
