DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Charlie Strong's seat is starting to get a lot warmer down in Austin.

According to Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated, a "high-ranking Texas official said on Sunday night that Strong is 'very close' to losing his job at the end of the season."

This comes on the heels of a Texas loss on the road in Week 5 to Oklahoma State 49-31.

There were rumblings following the game that Defensive coordinator Vance Bedford has been stripped of his play-calling duties. At a news conference Monday morning, Strong confirmed that he'd take over those duties for one of the worst defenses in the country.  Bedford will continue to coach the secondary.

"The way we've played on defense is unacceptable," Strong said. "So I'm gonna run the defense. I'm going to coach the defense."

The Longhorns are giving up 38.3 points per game, 14th worst in FBS Division 1-A.
