ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) — Arlington police officers shot and killed a woman who had been described as suicidal after she pointed a gun at them on Sunday, according to the department.

Officers responded to the 700 block of East Mitchell Street around 10 a.m., police say, after a man called 911 from a church to report his wife was suicidal and possibly had a handgun. The 51-year-old woman wouldn't come to the door to speak with officers when they arrived, according to the department.

The woman got into a vehicle from the back of the house and drove up the driveway. Police say when officers on foot tried to make contact with her, she pointed a gun at them. Two officers fired at the woman while she was in the vehicle, pointing the gun at them.

The woman was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Her identity has not yet been released.

No one else was injured.
