Rangers Sign Trio Of Dominican Prospects
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers signed a trio of top prospects from the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, including the eighth best international prospect, according to MLB.com.
Marcos Diplan, a 16-year-old right-handed pitcher, highlights the signings. The team also reached deals with Dominican outfielder Jose Almonte and Dominican shortstop Yeyson Yrizarri.
Diplan signed with the organization for $1.3 million, while Almonte received $1.8 million and Yrizarri $1.35 million.

Diplan, 16, has a slight frame (5-foot-11, 160 pounds) but a loose arm and quick arm action that generates a fastball that can reach 94 mph. His repertoire also includes a changeup and a power curveball. Because of his size, durability is an issue for some scouts.
Almonte is expected to play at third base or in the outfield. Yrizarri projects as a middle infielder.
The international signing period began on Tuesday. Each team is alotted a specific amount of money to spend based on their 2012 record.
