Rangers Sign Free Agent Pitcher Roy Oswalt
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Rangers have added another arm to the already strong bullpen by signing free agent Roy Oswalt (9-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 2011) to a reported one year $5 million deal - with another $1 million in incentives.
It was reported that several teams were in the hunt to acquire Oswalt including the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers with whom he worked out with recently.
The 34-year old pitcher, who has been sidelined twice to the DL recently due to lower back issues, chose to ignore offers from the Detroit Tigers and Red Sox in the off-season for the chance to be picked-up by the Rangers or Cardinals after the season started.
With Neftali Feliz on the DL the Rangers had an open spot to fill after moving Scott Feldman into the rotation.
Oswalt is expected to join Texas after making 3 or 4 minor league starts.
