Report: Mavs Trade Devin Harris To Denver, Get Doug McDermott From Knicks
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN/AP) - Two people with knowledge of the situation say the Denver Nuggets have traded Emmanuel Mudiay to New York and acquired Devin Harris from Dallas in a three-team deal.
The Mavericks will get Doug McDermott from New York, the people told The Associated Press on Thursday. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade could not be completed until it was approved by the NBA. It was first reported by ESPN.
Dallas will also receive a second-round pick from the Denver Nuggets via the Portland Trailblazers.
Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson told media members it was difficult to say goodbye to Harris on Thursday.
"He's in the Maverick family. I've gotten very very close to him and his family," Nelson said after the trade deadline passed. "It's a really gut-wrenching deal to go through and one that we really wrestled with. Like I said, he's really in a lot of respects everything that we want our young guys to be ... and that's not lost on us. I think this summer ... I think eventually he'll find his way back to big D to close it out."
Harris, who has spent nine of his 16 NBA seasons in a Mavs uniform, told media members after learning of the trade at the team's shoot-around in Oakland that "Dallas will always be home for me."
The player Dallas received in return for Harris is 26-year-old Doug McDermott. The former Men's College Basketball Player of the Year out of Creighton University is averaging 7.2 points per game and is shooting almost 39 percent from three-point range for the New York Knicks this season.
The trade reunites McDermott and Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes who were high school teammates in Ames High School in Iowa.
Dallas also announced the signing of guard Kyle Collinsworth to a new contract. The former BYU standout has been playing with the Mavericks and the Texas Legends of the G-League this season.
Collinsworth averaged 2.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 10.5 minutes per game in 11 games for Dallas this season. He originally signed a two-way contract with the Mavericks on Dec. 19 but was waived by the team on Jan. 10. He then signed a pair of 10-day contracts with the club on Jan. 13 and 24.
