Report: Mavs Acquire Rajon Rondo From Celtics
DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - Multiple reports say the Dallas Mavericks have agreed in principle to send a package of picks and players to the Boston Celtics for Rajon Rondo.
Rondo, who is in his 9th season with Boston, will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Sources say the Mavericks will get Rondo and Dwight Powell. Powell recently played for the D-league Maine Red Claws.
In turn, Dallas will send Brandon Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and will give 1st and 2nd round NBA draft picks to Boston.
While Rondo struggles as a perimeter shooter, his defensive presence on the perimeter would fill a need for Dallas. The former Kentucky Wildcat has twice been named to the NBA's All-Defensive First Team (2010, 2011) and twice to the Second Team (2009, 2012).
Rondo currently leads the NBA in assists per game at 10.8. He also grabs 7.5 rebounds per game.
This season, he is averaging the fewest number of shot attempts (9.1) and points (8.3) since his rookie season for the rebuilding Celtics.
