LOS ANGELES (CBSDFW.COM) -- Flavored toothpicks, gum, and sunflower seeds -- Josh Hamilton used them all last season to shed his addiction to chewing tobacco with the Rangers.

But according to a report in the LA Times, the struggling slugger has resumed the habit with the Los Angeles Angels.

Asked if he had resumed chewing tobacco after quitting last July — a move that led to withdrawal symptoms and may have contributed to his second-half slump with Texas — Hamilton said, "No comment."

The 5-time All-Star released a statement last July after saying he had been disobedient in a pre-game interview. In the statement, Hamilton, a Christian, said his issue was being obedient to the Lord in quitting chewing tobacco.

Hamilton has struggled with the Angels in the first year of his five-year, $125-million deal. The left-hander is batting just .223 with 10 RBIs and 29 RBIs.

But the slugger has shown signs of emerging from his early season slump. On a six-game road trip last week, Hamilton was nine-for-21 with four doubles and four RBIs.

According to the LA Times, Hamilton could be seen on television "spitting black liquid during some at-bats."
