DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network says Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has reached an agreement with Texas Senator Royce West to settle their legal dispute.
Bryant was being sued by West for $100,000 to $200,000. A court filing said that a home Bryant lived in needed $60,000 worth of repairs.
Bryant then counter-sued West, saying that Wused him to "improperly line his own pockets and those of his business associates."
One of those business associates is David Wells, a former confidante of Bryant's, who was tasked with helping Bryant stay out of trouble when he first came into the league.
According to the lawsuit filed by Bryant, Wells made marketing deals without the receivers knowledge through a company he created called Dez Enterprises. West would then instruct companies to make endorsement agreement payments to himself or Wells. The suit said the money would never reach Bryant.
Bryant alleged Wells "absconded" with more than $200,000 that is owed to him, while West's law firm was paid more than $300,000 through the endorsement deals.
"West proceeded with conscious indifference to Bryant's rights and welfare," the lawsuit says. It also claims West devised the scheme to rob Bryant.
There's no word at this time on the terms of the settlement.
