Arrest Made In Shooting Death Of Dallas Postal Worker
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a United States Postal Worker in Dallas.
Donnie Ferrell, 25, of Hutchins is currently being held without bond. Records show he was arrested by Postal Inspectors and the Dallas Police Department on Wednesday night.
Tony Mosby, 58, was shot and killed early Monday morning while driving along Interstate-30 in Dallas.
According to the arrest affidavit, the motive for the murder was apparently road rage. Ferrell was allegedly drinking with friends and was angered by a hand gesture from Mosby while passing him on the freeway.
Dallas police received a call reporting the shooting just before 2:30 a.m. Monday. Officers went to the scene and found the driver inside a USPS box truck had been shot. The 18-wheeler was stopped in the eastbound lanes of I-30, on the ramp to southbound Interstate-35 — it had crashed against the guardrail.
Because Mosby was a Federal employee, the resources of the U.S. Postal Inspectors and the FBI were added to help Dallas Police investigate the case.
"On behalf of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Mosby family for the tragic loss of their loved one," said Thomas Noyes, Inspector in Charge of the Fort Worth Division, U.S Postal Inspection Service. "The cooperation among federal and local law enforcement agencies in this matter is a prime example of how we work best when we work together. I would like to thank the dedicated Postal Inspectors and staff as well as the Dallas Police Department, our federal partners, and U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox and her staff for their dedication and partnership in seeing this case brought to prosecution."
On Monday night the U.S. Postal Service said it was offering up to a $50,000 reward regarding this case.
"While our family of federal employees is saddened by the tragic loss of one of our own, I am proud of the cooperative effort by our federal and local law enforcement partners to solve this heinous crime, especially the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Dallas Police Department," said U.S. Attorney Nealy Cox. "With this arrest, we take a crucial step towards ensuring that the person allegedly responsible for this senseless murder is brought to justice."
