Repeat Robber Gets 40 Years Behind Bars
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A repeat robber from Rowlett has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars after his latest crime. Lonnie Jack Lee was given the sentence on Thursday. This stems from a crime that took place at the Days Inn in McKinney on January 1, 2012.
Prosecutors said that Lee, along with Summer Jones and Megan Whitney, robbed hotel guest Ferris Short that day. The victim had allegedly invited Jones to his hotel room to celebrate the new year and partake in recreational drug use. Short kicked her out of the room after he caught her trying to steal his money.
Jones returned to the hotel 45 minutes later accompanied by Lee and Whitney, prosecutors said. The group reportedly rushed into the Short's room and attacked the victim. Lee punched and kicked Short in the face while Jones and Whitney took the victim's money and drugs.
Short's jaw was broken in two places and he suffered permanent paralysis on the left side of his face.
Lee was not arrested until nearly four months after the crime. He spent just over a year in custody before being sentenced.
The 35-year-old received a longer sentenced than normal due to his past crimes. Lee had been sentenced to five years in prison in 1997 after another aggravated robbery. He was then given six more years behind bars in 2002 because of yet another robbery. Lee will now be ineligible for parole until he has served in jail for at least 20 years.
