Regulation Possibly On The Way For Uber, Lyft
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Taxi's, limos and transportation technology companies Uber and Lyft may soon all play by the same rules.
A sweeping proposal by the City of Dallas would change the way rides are regulated.
The city would no longer regulate fares, which could help Uber and Lyft whose prices change based on demand.
Dallas will allow an unlimited number of cars for hire; possibly ending Yellow Cab's domination and negatively impacting low-income residents who use cabs.
The proposal would also require drivers to pass a training class and car service company's would have to provide insurance for every car on the road.
City leaders will discuss the proposal Friday at an 11 a.m. meeting at City Hall.
