Red River County Cleaning Up After Severe Storms
CLARKSVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Some residents in the northeastern parts of North Texas are cleaning up after severe storms rolled across the area on Tuesday. Three tornadoes touched down in the region and damaged homes, but forunately no injuries have been reported.
One of those three confirmed tornadoes hit Clarksville, located about 120 miles northeast of Dallas in Red River County. A storm spotter in the area told the National Weather Service that the tornado flipped barns and trailers. "I'm thankful it didn't hit my house. We can replace the shed," said Clarksville resident Michelle Lane. "I'm just thankful that's all it did."
Meanwhile, another tornado struck the community of Brookston, located outside of Paris in Lamar County. The sheriff there said that the tornado lifted a barn about 20 feet into the air before smashing it. The storm also tossed a firefighter into a ditch. He was not injured.
After the storms had passed, electrical crews traveled along the dark, nighttime roads trying to help those who lost power during the storms. Authorities are not sure about how many people were actually affected by the storms, but again, there have been no reports of serious injuries or deaths coming as a result of the severe weather.
CBS 11 News spoke with people in the region, who said that they had plenty of warning that severe storms were approaching. This is part of the same storm system that just missed the immediate DFW Metro area on Tuesday afternoon.
