Record Demand for Electricity
It's hot all over the state, and we got proof of that yesterday afternoon when Texas set a record for electricity usage. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas set a new electricity demand record of 63,594 megawatts between 4 and 5 p.m., exceeding the previous record of 63,400 megawatts recorded last July 13th. ERCOT says the region has adequate generation to cover an expected summer peak demand over 64,000 megawatts and still maintain a 21 percent cushion of reserves to cover unexpected outages.
