Rash Of Fires Depletes Area Red Cross Resources
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Red Cross is running low on resources after helping more than 100 North Texas families in the past three days.
Helping with a rash of four apartment fires and 12 single-family home fires has left Red Cross resources depleted.
"We're somewhat concerned that we continue to have a rash of fires. We're right at the beginning of spring storm season and we've blown through a lot of resources here in the last few days," explained Red Cross spokeswoman Anita Foster.
To put things in perspective –- the Red Cross has basically distributed about three weeks worth of aid in three days.
Foster said the Red Cross not only helps fire victims, but also the crews that fight the fires.
"Our relief truck actually pulls right up to the curb and we start distributing items and then we start the process of determining who is going to need shelter."
Now, the organization that comes to the rescue every time they're called is asking for help as they gear up for storm season.
"We want people, if you can, to just text the word REDCROSS to 90999, that'll actually make a $10 donation to the organization," explained Foster.
The American Red Cross responds every time they're called and assists residents with things like shelter, clothing, groceries, bedding and more.
