Rarely Shown Spanish Drawings In Dallas

DALLAS (AP) - Rarely exhibited Spanish drawings have traveled from a German museum to Dallas for a showing.

The exhibit opens Sunday at the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University. It's the first exhibit outside of Germany to showcase the collection housed at the Hamburger Kunsthalle in Hamburg.

Almost 90 works by Spanish artists from the 16th and 18th centuries will be on display, including works by Francisco Goya.

The exhibit closes in Dallas on Aug. 31, then heads for Madrid's Prado Museum, where it opens Oct. 28.

Most of the collection, which contains 210 Spanish works, came to the Hamburg museum when its first director acquired the drawings from a London-based collector in 1891. Since then, works from the collection have only been featured three times in small in-house exhibitions.
